first on the now.new information today about a deadly new years eve crash that killed a covington couple and left two kids without a mom and dad. now the man who police say caused it is answering to the murder charges against him. him.jordan burgess has this new information now.

we got here in kenton county.. someone tried to stop mark huffman from driving right before the crash. but police say he got behind the wheel anyway. anyway. as twisted as this wreckage is.. it's the lives that have been forever entangled in it... that have made it such a tragedy.and now police are saying it didn't have to happen. happen. vehicle noise david and ella mcnay were out for new year's eve... a couple in love.. their facebook page full of photos of them together.but on kentucky 17 near pelly road a black cadillac hit their suv head on... killing them both... and leaving their two kids without a mom and dad. state your name, date of birth mr. huffman.the man accused of driving that cadillac.. mark huffman.. was in court this morning on two murder charges. in the hospital since the crash.. he rolled to the podium in a wheelchair and you can see the wrist he still has bandaged.according to kenton county court documents.. huffman had drugs in his system at the time of the crash and his blood alcohol

the legal limit.police say afterward mutiple people told them that they'd seen huffman was drunk.. and one even tried to talk him out of getting behind the wheel.the judge denied huffman any kind of bond while he's awaiting trial.. citing the seriousness of the charges. charges. and the judge ordered huffman to find and pay for his own attorney by his next court date in february saying he wasn't eligible to be represented by the public defender. jordan burgess. the now cincinnati. cincinnati. a go-fund-me page set up for the couple raised nearly two thousand dollars.the organizer posted she has now stopped taking donations saying the family is thankful for everyone's kindness and now has everything taken care of. "a heartbreaking loss." that's what school officials in milford are saying about the death of a 16 year old student who was killed in a car crash last night. police say lauren wilfong was driving on glendale milford road around 6-pm sunday when her car drove off the

and hit another vehicle head on. lauren was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.today counselors from the clermont county crisis team are at milford high school talking to grieving students and staff. principal josh kauffman described lauren as a "fine young lady and fine representative of milford high school." in butler county -- four teens indicted in a deadly drug deal will be tried separately. prosecutors say it was a planned attack on 18 year old tyler kassow of west chester. investigators believe that two of the teens, demarcus staley and rodney foster went into kassow's home on january 13-th to rob him of marijuana. at some point, there was a struggle over a gun... and it was fired... hitting kassow in the head.two other teens, justin koch and jibril willingham are accused of waiting outside in a getaway car. 9 on your side spoke to the victim's brother after court...

right now... city leaders along the east coast are asking for patience as crews clean up from this weekend's massive snow storm.you can see from this school bus that got lot of roads are still covered. mayor bill de blasio | new york city: "this is not your inches more would have been the greatest snowfall in the history of new york city in the last century and a half. we've got to get that through everybody's head." head."and we're getting an updated look at the impact of the storm right now.new figures show at least 37 people died in 11 states and in washington d-c.early estimates say the storm could cost between 350 to 700 million dollars-- that includes lost pay, lost revenue, and clean up. things are back to usual along interstate 75 -- but the winter storm did shut down the highway friday into saturday morning.about 17 inches fell in the lexington area and left drivers trapped with nowhere to go.they had to wait it out until crews could clear the road.a news crew was among those trapped. 1:20 justin skeens/photographer "we became a news story. it

"something has to be done to eliminate the active shooter threat..." some kentucky lawmakers believe that starts with law-abiding gun owners. newly proposed legislation sponsored by state representative tim moore would allow people who had concealed carry permits to bring guns on kentucky public school campuses, at general assembly meetings, and in government buildings--excluding courtrooms and jails. its a step bill supporters say could help better protect students. joe kalil// supports expanding concealed carry law "what's worth noting is that when you replace the sign on a school that says teacher and staff on this campus are trained and armed you probably won't have the shooting in the first place because you have a deterrent." last week, fort wright city council members endorsed the bill in a 4- 2 vote. flint not the only community dealing with water.another town much closer to cincinnati is also dealing with lead.the town of sebring, near youngstown, is now testing its schools for contamination after water samples tested positive for unsafe levels of lead.on friday the epa tested spigots and water fountains in sebring schools.most came back negative but one was positive. three homes in the area also tested at high levels.and while the epa tested for lead in the water, mahoning county officials tested blood samples for traces of lead for expecting mothers, children and infants. 1:28 - 1:34lindsay symaksk, sebring resident "we just wanted to come and make sure everything was okay it's not clear when sebring's lead problem started.but a water advisory alert for pregnant women and children was posted on the e-p-a website on december third.
